The RIAA has initiated legal proceedings against individual file-sharers once again, this time targeting 753 people.
The action is part of a steady clip of lawsuits, with the trade group using the legal strategy to deter future P2P file-sharing activity. The latest round brings the total number of suits to over 9,000, with the trade group first starting the proceedings in September, 2003. But the RIAA is still forced to issue subpoenas to anonymous, “John Doe” recipients, though the group is currently challenging that privacy restriction in the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. Meanwhile, sister trade group MPAA is also on the hunt, creating similar rounds against suspected movie file-sharers.
