Slash will take a leading role in the upcoming edition of Guitar Hero, slated for in-store this fall.
The release, Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock, will position the iconic guitarist front-and-center, according to information disclosed Tuesday. Slash, who currently plays with Velvet Revolver, will supply an original track and be featured as a boss battle character. The classic “Welcome to the Jungle” will also be incorporated into the action, alongside music from the Rolling Stones, Beastie Boys, Muse and Pearl Jam. “Guitar legend Slash, combined with Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock’s robust soundtrack and innovative new game features, will continue to solidify the brand’s leadership in the rhythm-action genre,” said Robin Kaminsky, executive vice president of Activision Publishing.
Guitar Hero is a front-running title in a quickly-growing gaming genre that demands physical interaction among its participants. That level of interactivity defines platforms like the Nintendo Wii, though Guitar Hero will also be available on Xbox 360 and PlayStation systems. The Guitar Hero series was initially developed by Harmonix Music Systems, purchased by MTV Networks in September of last year. The title has since been purchased by Activision, and development is now being led by Neversoft Entertainment.
