Spotify is launching a new ‘offline playlist’ option for Premium members. The feature offers the ability to listen to music while offline on a plane, train, or anywhere there’s no reliable internet connection.
Offline Backup takes queued and recently streamed tracks to create an easy-to-access playlist that is unique to the user. Spotify says the playlist uses tracks already stored on the device and those that are part of regular listening on Spotify. The playlist can be filtered and songs sorted within the playlist by artist, mood, and even genre. Offline Backup evolves as users listen to content—so it’s never the same playlist twice.
“For the times that you forget to download your favorite audio, Offline Backup gives you another way to access music without using any extra data or storage,” says Spotify about the new feature.
Spotify has been testing Offline Backup with users since late last year. After receiving positive feedback about the playlist, it’s now available as a feature to all Spotify Premium members globally. The feature is rolling out on Android and iOS this week, including Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
How To Use Spotify Offline Backup Playlist
The new Spotify Offline Backup playlist will appear in the Home feed anytime the device doesn’t have an internet connection. For the feature to work, you need to have listened to at least five songs recently and have offline listening enabled in the settings.
- Turn on offline listening by navigating to ‘Settings’ then ‘Data Saving’ and ‘Offline or Storage.’
- Toggle the ‘Offline Listening’ feature to enable it.
- The ‘Offline Backup’ playlist can be added to Your Library for easy access.
If you can’t find the ‘Offline Backup’ playlist, ensure your Spotify app is updated to the latest version from Google Play or the App Store.
