In a recent interview, rapper Snoop Dogg revealed that he has yet to cast a ballot in a U.S. election.
Snoop Dogg offered the surprising revelation during a remote conversation with Big Boy on the iHeartMedia-owned Real 92.3. “I ain’t never voted a day in my life … For many years they had me brainwashed thinking that you couldn’t vote cus you had a criminal record,” said Snoop Dogg.
The 48-year-old was arrested on drug-related charges shortly after graduating high school and has found himself in legal hot water multiple times in the interim. However, he proceeded to indicate in the interview that his record has since been expunged, and that he is eligible to vote during the upcoming presidential election.
And predictably, Snoop Dogg, who has long been a vocal critic of the Trump administration, voiced his intention to vote for the Democratic challenger in the 2020 presidential election.
The interview covered a number of other topics, including Snoop Dogg’s opinion of the ongoing protests and unrest, as well as how he’s keeping busy amid the coronavirus crisis.
It bears mentioning that lawmakers amended the California Constitution in 1974, to allow felons to vote once they’d completed their prison sentences and met their parole requirements.
In February, Digital Music News was first to report that Snoop Dogg had backtracked the threats he made to CBS This Morning host Gayle King, following an interview she conducted with WNBA star Lisa Leslie that touched on a 2003 sexual assault allegation involving the late Kobe Bryant.
Just over one month ago, Snoop Dogg and Mexico’s Banda MS partnered to release a song entitled “Que Maldicion” (which translates to “what a curse”). Snoop delivered the lion’s share of his vocals in English, but did sing some Spanish-language lyrics.
At the time of this writing, the official video for “Que Maldicion” had been viewed more than 35 million times on YouTube.
