The Fugees reunited during Lauryn Hill’s headlining set at the Roots Picnic music festival for what may be the group’s final performance as Pras Michel faces a 20-year prison term.
Concertgoers were in for a special treat during Lauryn Hill’s headlining performance at the Roots Picnic music festival. Hill’s Fugees bandmates, Wyclef Jean and Pras Michel, joined her on stage for a six-song set in celebration of Hill’s 25th anniversary of her hallmark album, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill.
The performance may be the last time the three share a stage, as Michel was found guilty earlier this year of federal charges, including witness tampering, conspiracy, and failing to register as an agent of a foreign nation. He currently faces a prison sentence of up to 20 years.
The COVID-19 pandemic thwarted the Fugees’ plans for a reunion tour, though they played one reunion show in New York City in 2021. The group was hoping to pick up touring again in 2022, but Pras’ legal trouble, unfortunately, put a damper on those plans.
Meanwhile, Wyclef Jean has dealt with periodic medical issues since last year. The rapper was hospitalized for a night in March 2022 after returning to Los Angeles from Miami and experiencing numbness on the right side of his face. Doctors conducted tests during his stay and ultimately determined that Wyclef Jean’s facial numbness resulted from stress-related exhaustion.
“Sometimes we forget that our body is our temple,” Wyclef wrote in an Instagram post, showing himself in a wheelchair and admitting he wasn’t taking proper care of himself. “Be back soon.”
On Saturday, the Fugees played a number of their hits, including “How Many Mics,” “Killing Me Softly,” “Fu-Gee-La,” and “Ready Or Not.”

“@MsLaurynHill did us a solid by not only letting us celebrate with her the classic #MiseducationOfLaurynHill but she also made a moment by bringing together her bredren @WyclefJean & @PrasMichel,” Questlove wrote on Instagram, having produced the show. “I’m giving all the gratitude for making this miracle of a night happen.”
